Town of Crested Butte
Crested Butte, also known as Colorado’s Last Great Ski Town, lives up to its name. Crested Butte is located off the beaten path so getting here isn’t by luck but rather by choice. Endless miles of mountain scenery seen right from town make this mountain gem worth the visit! Sitting at an elevation of 8,900 feet and with a population estimated at 1,700 year-round residents, there are no stop lights or fast-food chains so keeping the charm of our rich history comes easy.
The National Historic District, located on Elk Avenue, is the heart of Crested Butte. The streets are lined with colorful buildings and friendly people! The Mountain Express, which operates a free shuttle service between the ski resort and around town, reflects Crested Butte’s funky & playful character by commissioning local artists to paint the buses with their own designs! It’s the people, from all different walks of life, that make Crested Butte the engaging, entertaining, and authentic community that you’ll find when you venture up Highway 135 from Gunnison.
